Judge Thomas Feinman - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Thomas Feinman is a Justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was originally elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2004 and was subsequently re-elected in 2017. Previously, Justice Feinman served as an elected Nassau County District Court judge from 1998 to 2003.

He graduated with his B.A. in history and education from Hofstra University in 1972. He went on to earn his J.D. from Hofstra University, Maurice A. Deane School of Law in 1975.

Feinman began his legal career as an attorney at the law firm Dalton and Henoch, where he practiced briefly beginning in 1976.

After a year at the firm, he left the private sector to join the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, but quickly returned to private practice in 1979.

At that time, Feinman joined the law firm Sale, Groothuis, and Feinman, where he practiced for one year. He then began practicing at Annibale and Feinman in 1980 and remained in his position there until his election to the District Court in 1998.

Justice Feinman has also taught as an assistant adjunct professor at Hofstra University from 2005 until 2012, when he then became an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Accounting, Taxation, and Legal Studies at Zarb School of Business.

His memberships have included the New York State Supreme Court Judges Association, the Nassau County District Court Judges Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, the Former District Attorney’s Association, and the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers.

Justice Feinman received the George M. Estabrook Distinguished Service Award from Hofstra University in 2003 and the President’s Award from the Court Officers Benevolent Association of Nassau County in 2000.
