Judge Reginald A. Boddie - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Reginald A. Boddie is a Justice of the Kings County Supreme Court in the Second Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2017. Justice Boddie also served as a supervising judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York in Kings County in 2016, receiving an appointment to the judicial position by the Hon. Lawrence K. Marks, Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York. His other judicial positions have included serving as an Acting Justice of the Kings County Supreme Court, appointed by the Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, former Chief Administrative Judge, in 2015 and as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Kings County, a position he was elected to in 2010.

Justice Boddie received his B.A. from Brown University in 1981. He went on to earn his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 1984.

After graduating from law school, Boddie began his legal career as a staff attorney at The Legal Aid Society in 1984. Two years later, he went to work as a staff attorney with the Harlem Legal Services, where he would practice until 1988. It was at that time that Boddie became assistant counsel at the Medgar Evers College, Center for Law and Social Justice, where he served for the next seven years.

Then, in 1995, he entered into solo practice at his own law firm, where he specialized in civil matters involving landlord/tenant, employment, and family law cases. During his time in private practice, Boddie became the project director at the New York City Bar Association. He held both positions concurrently until his election to the Civil Court.

Justice Boddie also founded the United Youth Enterprises, a nonprofit youth leadership organization.

His other memberships have included serving on the Board of Directors of Claremont Neighborhood Centers in the Bronx and of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Union County in New Jersey. He has also been a member of the New York City Bar Association and the Brooklyn Bar Association.
