Judge Crystal D. Mittelstaedt: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Crystal D. Mittelstaedt is an associate judge for the Prince George’s County Circuit Court in the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland. She joined the bench in December 2007.


Her judicial career began as an associate judge for the Prince George’s County District Court in District Five in 2005.


Prior to joining the bench, Mittelstaedt worked for eighteen years as an associate county attorney in the Prince George’s County Office of Law (1987 to 2005).


She received a B.A. in economics from the University of Maryland in 1981. Mittelstaedt went on to complete a J.D. at Antioch School of Law in 1986. She was admitted to practice in Maryland (1987), the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.


Her memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association, the Harry A. Cole Bar Association, the Marlborough Inn of Court, the National Association of Women Judges, and the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland.


Mittelstaedt received a Certificate of Achievement from the Black Women’s Bar Association of Suburban Maryland and is a Fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation.
