Judge Andrew S. Rappaport - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Andrew S. Rappaport is an associate judge for the Calvert County Circuit Court in the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Larry Hogan in October 2019.

At the time of his appointment, Rappaport was the State’s Attorney in Calvert County, a position he had held since January 2019. Before that, he served there as chief of the District Court Division for five years (2013 to 2018). Rappaport joined the office as a senior assistant state’s attorney in 2007.

He also spent time as an assistant state’s attorney with the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office (2003 to 2007).

Rappaport received a B.S. from Elon University in 2000. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2003.

His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association (Board of Directors; treasurer), the Calvert County Bar Association, the National District Attorneys Association, the Maryland State’s Attorneys’ Association, and the Harvard Associates in Police Sciences.

Rappaport has sat as a member of the Calvert County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council, the Calvert County Child Advocacy Center’s Executive Committee, and the College of Southern Maryland’s Advisory Committee.

His civic involvement has included the Calvert County Relay for Life (co-captain), DARE (co-captain), Calvert Christmas in April, the Elks, the Optimist Club of Clavert, the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Committee, Project Graduation, the Calvert County High School’s Mock Trial, Opiate Awareness Community Groups, the Calvert County Parks and Recreation (soccer coach), and the Dunkirk Warriors Lacrosse (assistant coach).

Rappaport received the Respect for the Law Award from the Optimist Club of Calvert (2011 to 2012).

He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts.
