Judge Andrew Borrok: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Andrew Borrok is a Justice of the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the First Judicial District of New York. Before sitting on the New York County Supreme Court bench, Justice Borrok had been elected to serve as a Kings County Supreme Court Justice in 2017.

Justice Borrok received his B.A. from Columbia College in 1993. He would go on to earn his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1996 and his M.B.A. from Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 2001.

After graduating from law school, Borrok practiced as an associate with the law firms of Proskauer Rose LLP (1996 to 1998), Bear Stearns (2001 to 2002), as well as with Squire Sanders (2002 to 2004). In 2002, Borrok became general counsel with the 425 Park Avenue Company and by the following year was also serving as the managing member and owner of 14 Penn Plaza LLC. He was made a general partner at 425 Park Avenue Company in 2007. During this time, Borrok also served as of counsel with Arent Fox from 2004 to 2005 and was a volunteer assistant district attorney with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office for part of the year in 2006.

Borrok remained at 14 Penn Plaza LLC until 2007 and with 425 Park Avenue Company until 2009. These positions were followed by Borrok serving as both an attorney and investor at Borrok Properties LLC, where he would remain until his election to the Civil Court.

His judicial career began in 2015 when he was elected to serve as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York. After his election to the Civil Court bench, Justice Borrok was designated to the Kings County Criminal Court by the Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York that same year. Then, in 2017, he returned to the Civil Court, where he remained until his election to the Kings County Supreme Court bench.

While on the Supreme Court, Justice Borrok was appointed to serve in the Commercial Division in New York County in 2018.

Justice Borrok has also been an active member of his community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Mt. Sinai Hospital, Columbia College, the Business Executives for National Security, the 34th Street Partnership, and the Citymeals-on-Wheels.

His other memberships have included the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association, the Kings County Criminal Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the District of Columbia Bar Association, and the Hawaii State Bar Association.

In 2013, Justice Borrok received a commendation from New York Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly and also received a commendation from General Montgomery C. Meigs, the 31st Commander of the U.S. Army Europe on behalf of the Business Executives for National Security.
