The Hon. William E. Jarvis is a judge for the 31st Judicial District Court of Virginia. He was elected to the bench by the Virginia General Assembly in 2012.
The 31st Judicial District encompasses Prince William County.
Prior to his election, Jarvis was an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, a position to which he was named in 2002.
Jarvis earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and criminal justice from Old Dominion University in 1985. He then completed a J.D. at George Mason University, Antonin Scalia Law School, in 1991. He is licensed to practice in Virginia (1992) and Florida (1998).
After graduating from law school, Jarvis began his legal career as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the Pittsylvania County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity until 1998, at which time he relocated to Marion County, Florida, where he was hired as an assistant state attorney with the 5th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.
His memberships have included the Board of Directors for the Criminal Law Section of the Virginia State Bar. He has also been involved with the Access to Justice Commission’s Subcommittee on Unrepresented Litigants.
Raised in Norfolk, Virginia, Jarvis spends his spare time working on antique motorcycles, cooking barbecue, and playing Irish melodies on the violin.
