The Hon. William Dupont (Ret.) is a former judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Louisiana. He was elected to the bench in 2004. Dupont retired in 2015.
The 18th Judicial District includes the Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and West Baton Rouge Parishes.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. Dupont then completed a J.D. at Loyola University, New Orleans College of Law. He was admitted to practice in Louisiana in 1975.
Dupont began his legal career in private practice as a partner at Dupont, Dupont & Dupont in 1975, where he remained until his election to the bench. In addition to his practice, he served as a city attorney for the City of Plaquemine (1976 to 1985), a city judge for the Plaquemine City Court (1985 to 1990; 1997 to 2004), an assistant district attorney for the 18th Judicial District (1991 to 1996), and a judge pro tem for the 18th Judicial District Court (2001 to 2002).
Dupont is a past chairman and board member of the Capital Area Human Services for District 1.
He is a married father of two daughters.
