The Hon. Thomas P. Sotelo is a judge for the 19th Judicial District Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court of Virginia in Fairfax County. He was appointed to the bench in December 2008.
During his judicial tenure, Sotelo served as chief judge of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in Fairfax County.
Prior to his appointment, he was in solo practice at his own law firm since 1991, where he handled domestic relations and family law, criminal, juvenile, traffic, trusts, and estates litigation, guardianship and conservatorship, and appellate matters. In addition to his practice, Sotelo acted as a Guardian ad Litem in custody and visitation and abuse and neglect matters.
Before establishing his law firm, he began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Richard J. Jamborsky with the 19th Judicial Circuit Court in Fairfax County.
Sotelo received a B.A. from George Mason University in 1987. He then completed a J.D. at William & Mary Law School in 1990.
Active with the Fairfax Bar Association, Sotelo received their President’s Award in 1999. He was also a member of the Advisory Committee for the Judicial Mentoring Program, the Parent Education Advisory Committee, and the Judicial Liaison Committee to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
