The Hon. Susan H. Hazlett is the District Administrative Judge for the Harford County District Court in Maryland. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Martin O’Malley on June 2, 2008.
Hazlett has held assignments as the Presiding Judge of the Adult DUI Subsequent Offender Court Program (2013 to 2017). She also sat on the Harford County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and the Commission on Judicial Disabilities (2011 to 2021), and she served on the Education Committee, the District Court Chief Judge’s Committee, the Joint Work Group on Human Trafficking, and the Equal Justice Committee of the Maryland Judicial Council.
Prior to her appointment, Hazlett was an assistant state’s attorney for the Baltimore County Office of the State’s Attorney (1988 to 2008). During her tenure there, she served in the District Court Division, the Juvenile Court, the Felony Trial Team, and the Child Abuse & Sex Offense Division.
Hazlett earned a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in 1983. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1987.
Her memberships have included the Harford County Bar Association, the Maryland State’s Attorneys’ Association, the Glen Elyn Community Association, and the Carroll Manor Recreation Council. She served on the State Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, the Baltimore County Child Protection Panel, and the Franklin Square Hospital Child Protection Team.
She is a recipient of the Special Recognition Award from the Maryland Children’s Alliance (2004).
Hazlett was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. When not handling legal matters, she is a stroke and turn official for the Harford Swim League.
