The Hon. Robert P. Coleman is a judge for the 31st Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia. He was elected to the bench by the Virginia General Assembly

Prior to his election, Coleman was a judge for the 31st Judicial District Court, a position to which he was named by the Virginia General Assembly on February 25, 2015. Before that, he spent time as a county attorney for the Prince William County Attorney’s Office.
Coleman earned a bachelor’s degree in government and economics from the College of William & Mary in 1992. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Dayton School of Law in 1995.
After graduating from law school, Coleman entered into private practice at Ryland & Merchak. He remained with the firm until 1999, at which time he joined Stephens, Boatwright, Cooper, Coleman & Newton. During this time, Coleman specialized in litigation matters, handling family, civil, and criminal cases.
