The Hon. Rex D. Stacey (Ret.) served as a judge for the 1st Judicial District Court of Minnesota. Stacey was named to the bench by former Governor Arne Carlson in 1996. He retired in 2021.
The First Judicial District includes Carver County, Dakota County, Goodhue County, Le Sueur County, Scott County, and Sibley County.
Over the course of his judicial career, Stacey held assignments in Dakota County (1996 to 2012) and Scott County (2012 to 2021). He also presided over the Scott County Drug Treatment Court.
Stacey earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and English from St. Cloud State University in 1976. He spent the next year working at a Catholic charity for children before completing a J.D. at William Mitchell College of Law in 1982.
After graduating from law school, Stacey entered into private practice, specializing in family law matters. He worked in that capacity until his appointment to the bench.
When not presiding over legal proceedings, Stacey enjoys riding his Harley Davidson Road King.
