The Hon. Raymond S. Childress (Ret.) served as a judge for the 22nd Judicial District Court of Louisiana. Childress was elected to the bench in 1998. He retired on December 31, 2023.
The 22nd Judicial District encompasses Washington Parish and St. Tammany Parish. Over the course of his judicial career, he held assignments on the Washington Parish Drug Court and the 22nd Judicial District Veterans Court.
Childress earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Southeastern Louisiana College in 1972. He then completed a J.D. at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 1979. He is licensed to practice in Louisiana (1979), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.
After graduating from law school, Childress entered into private practice, representing clients in personal injury, insurance, domestic relations, real estate, and criminal defense matters. He supplemented his practice with service as an assistant district attorney for the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s Office.
His memberships have included the Louisiana District Judges Association. He has also been involved with the Louisiana Supreme Court’s Council of Specialty Court Judges.
