The Hon. Michelle M. Breaux is a judge for the 15th Judicial District Court of Louisiana. She was elected to the bench in 2014.
The 15th Judicial District includes Acadia Parish, Lafayette Parish, and Vermilion Parish.
Breaux received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southwest Louisiana. She then completed a J.D. at Southern University Law Center in 1990.
Breaux began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Bradford Ware, Sr. with the 15th Judicial District Court. Then, in 1992, she accepted a position with the Public Defender’s Office and established her own solo practice. Two years later, Breaux was the coordinator of the FINS Program for Lafayette Parish, remaining in that capacity until 1999.
In 1995, she became a prosecutor for the 15th Judicial District. Breaux is credited with co-founding the Juvenile Drug Court in 2002 and helping to establish a truancy court for the Lafayette Parish School System. In addition, Breaux spent nineteen years as a magistrate for the City of Scott and taught criminal justice as an adjunct professor at the University of Louisiana.
She served her community as a past president of the St. Thomas More Advisory Council.
Breaux is a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, where she attended Acadiana High School. She and her husband, Brian, have two children.
Breaux is registered as a Republican.
