The Hon. Michael P. Mills, Jr. is a judge for the 1st Circuit Court District of Mississippi. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Tate Reeves on March 2, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James Roberts.
The 1st Circuit District encompasses Alcorn, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, Prentiss, and Tishomingo Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Mills was an attorney in private practice, representing individuals, financial institutions, medical clinics, and small businesses in Fulton. He supplemented his practice with service as an assistant district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney for the 1st Circuit as well as a county prosecutor for the Itawamba County Prosecutor’s Office.
Mills earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Mississippi. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Mississippi School of Law.
Born and raised in Fulton, Mississippi, Mills attended Itawamba Agricultural High School. He and his wife, Dr. Jada Mills, continue to reside in Fulton, where Jada chairs the Biology Division at Itawamba Community College. The couple has two children.
