The Hon. Mary Barnett Cotton is a judge for the Yazoo County Court in Mississippi. She was elected to the bench in 2018.
Prior to her election, Cotton owned the Cotton Law Firm, a practice she established in 2011. Before that, she briefly worked as an attorney in the Law Office of Don H. Evans (2011). Cotton specialized in guardianship, child support, child custody, and divorce matters, supplementing her practice with personal injury litigation.
Cotton earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Belhaven University in 1997. She then completed a J.D. at Mississippi College School of Law in 2000.
After graduating from law school, Cotton began her legal career in the Law Office of G. Joseph Diaz. She worked in that capacity until 2003, at which time she moved to the Law Office of John D. Giddens.
