The Hon. Mark A. Johnson is a judge for the 7th Judicial District Court of Nebraska. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Dave Heineman in March 2013.
The 7th Judicial District includes Antelope, Cuming, Knox, Madison, Pierce, Stanton, and Wayne Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Johnson was a partner at Johnson, Morland, Easland & Lohrberg in Norfolk since 1989. In addition to his practice, he was a special assistant attorney general for the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office (2010 to 2011) and taught for several years as an adjunct faculty member at Northeast Community College.
Before joining the firm, Johnson was an associate at Cunningham, Battershell & Bergin (1983 to 1985); a deputy county attorney in Douglas County (1985 to 1986); and an associate at the Law Offices of Robert M. Cook (1986 to 1989).
He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska, College of Music in 1978. Johnson then completed a J.D. at the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1983.
He is a past president of the Madison County Bar Association and also served as a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association, the Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys, the National Criminal Defense Attorneys Association, the Nebraska Criminal Defense Attorneys Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the National Trial Lawyers Association.
Johnson chaired the Nebraska Supreme Court Disciplinary Review Board and sat by appointment on the Third Judicial District Committee on Inquiry. In addition, he is a past president of the Northeast Nebraska Community Concert Association, Board of Directors.
