The Hon. Madeline Jasmine (Ret.) is a former judge for the 40th Judicial District Court of Louisiana in St. John the Baptist Parish. She was elected to the bench in 1990. Jasmine retired in 2020.
During her judicial tenure, Jasmine presided as Chief Judge of the 40th Judicial District, and she is credited with establishing the Drug Court Program for the District. In 2008, Jasmine was appointed judge pro tempore of the Louisiana 5th Circuit Court of Appeal.
She received a bachelor’s degree from Dillard University. Jasmine then completed a J.D. at Loyola University, New Orleans College of Law.
Over the course of her legal career, she held the position of assistant district attorney in both the 29th and 40th Judicial Districts. In addition, Jasmine worked in private practice and was an attorney for the New Orleans Legal Assistance Corporation.
Her memberships include the National Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the National Bar Association Judicial Council, the Louisiana Judicial Council, the 40th Judicial District Bar Association, the Fourth and Fifth Circuit Judges Association, the American Judges Association, the National Association of Juvenile Judges, the National Association of Women Judges, the Louis A. Martinet Society, the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, and the West St. John Civic Association.
Jasmine received the Ernest N. Morial Judicial Pacesetter Award and the A. Leon Higginbotham Award from the National Bar Association Judicial Council (2012).
She and her husband, Eric Bourgeois, have a blended family of three children. Jasmine attends New Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she was president of the Mass Choir.
