The Hon. Lisa Howell is a judge for the Lauderdale County Court in Mississippi. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Phil Bryant on October 16, 2017, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Frank M. Coleman.
Prior to her appointment, Howell was an assistant district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney for the 10th Circuit, a position to which she was named in 1995. She also spent time as a public defender in the Lauderdale County Youth Court.
Howell earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1986. She spent the next few years working as a paralegal in New Orleans before completing a J.D. at Mississippi College School of Law in 1991.
After graduating from law school, Howell entered into private practice at Jordan & Jones in Meridian. During her tenure there, she handled domestic relations matters, specializing in divorce and child custody litigation.
Her memberships have included the Lauderdale County Bar Association and the National District Attorneys Association. She has also served as the welfare chairman of the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian.
Raised in Lauderdale County, Howell attended Meridian High School. She and her husband, John, are active members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
