Hon. Lawrence V. Hill, Jr. is an associate judge for the Prince George’s County Circuit Court in the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Martin O’Malley in February 2014.
During his tenure on the Circuit Court, Hill has served as both the presiding judge of the Re-Entry Court and the juvenile coordinating judge since 2017.
He began his judicial career as an associate judge for the Prince George’s County District Court in the Fifth District in 2008. Before joining the bench, Hill worked for two years as an appeals hearing officer for the Board of Education in Prince George’s County beginning in 2005.
He also spent time in private practice. During that time, Hill managed his own private practice for ten years (1998 to 2008) and was an associate in the Law Offices of Rosalyn Pugh (1997 to 1998), the Law Offices of James H. Taylor, P.C. (1995 to 1997), and Hamilton, Gerald & Smith (1993 to 1995).
He received a B.A. in political science from Hampton University in 1988. Hill went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law in 1992. He was admitted to practice in Maryland (1993) and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (1995).
After graduating from law school, Hill began his legal career as a law clerk in the Juvenile Unit of the Office of the Public Defender in Prince George’s County (1992 to 1993).
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Prince George’s Bar Association, the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Hill has also sat as a member of the Maryland Judicial Conference Problem-Solving Courts Committee, the Court Interpreters Committee, and the Cheltenham Youth Facility Advisory Board.
