Hon. John P. Davey is an associate judge for the Prince George’s County Circuit Court in the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Martin O’Malley in 2011.
Prior to his appointment, Davey spent eleven years as the managing director at O’Malley, Miles, Nylen & Gilmore, P.A. (2000 to 2011). He practiced as a partner there beginning in 1995 and was a partner at Nylen & Gilmore, P.A. before that (1991 to 1995).
He received a B.A. in government and politics from King’s College (1974) and an M.P.A. in urban affairs from American University (1975). Davey went on to complete a J.D. at American University Washington College of Law in 1987.
He was admitted to practice in Maryland (1988) and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (1992).
After graduating from law school, Davey worked as the chief administrative officer in Prince George’s County (1987 to 1991), where he had worked as a deputy chief since 1982. As such, he was tasked with managing the day-to-day operations of all County departments and agencies.
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Maryland Bar Foundation. Davey sat on the board of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, and the Maryland Economic Development Commission.
His civic involvement has included the Prince George’s County Kiwanis Club, the Young Men’s Democratic Club, the Prince George’s Knights of Columbus, the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce, the Federal City Council, the Economic Development Club of Washington, and the Red Cross (Prince George’s County Advisory Council). Davey was also a member of the Voter Protection Legal Team for the Maryland Democratic Party.
He received the Advocate of the Year Award from the Marylanders for Efficient and Safe Highways Transportation (2000), the Outstanding Service Award from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (2003), and the Civic Leadership Award from the Community Foundation for Prince George’s County (2012).
