The Hon. Joel D. Worshtil (Ret.) served as an associate judge for the Prince George’s County District Court in Maryland. Worshtil was appointed to the bench by former Governor Parris Glendening on January 30, 1998. He retired on May 31, 2012.
Worshtil held assignments on the Child Support Enforcement Committee of the Maryland Judicial Conference.
Prior to his appointment, Worshtil was a master for domestic relations for the Prince George’s County District Court, a position to which he was named in 1989. Before that, he spent time as an attorney in private practice (1972 to 1990) as well as a staff attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission (1973 to 1978).
Worshtil earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo in 1968. He then completed a J.D. at the Ohio State University, Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 1972.
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Arizona Bar Association, and the Prince George’s County Bar Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the People’s Pro Bono Action Center, he sat on the Prince George’s County Human Relations Commission, and he authored the Personal Injury Verdicts Report for the Prince George’s County Bar Association.
Worshtil was born in Toledo, Ohio, and attended Sylvania High School in Sylvania, Ohio.
