The Hon. Jeffrey M. Bryan is a judge for the Minnesota Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Tim Walz on November 25, 2019, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Heidi Schellhas.
Prior to his appointment, Bryan was a judge for the 2nd Judicial District of Minnesota, a position to which he was named by former Governor Mark Dayton on August 20, 2013. Before that, he was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota, where he prosecuted economic fraud and drug-trafficking conspiracy cases.
Bryan earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He then completed a J.D. at Yale Law School.
After graduating from law school, Bryan began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Paul A. Magnuson of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. He then entered into private practice, specializing in antitrust law and intellectual property disputes as an associate at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi.
His memberships have included the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association, the Macalester-Groveland Community Council, the Minnesota Task Force on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, the Minnesota Urban Debate League Board, and the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity Board. He was also involved with the Minnesota Minority Recruiting Conference Committee for Twin Cities Diversity in Practice as well as the Minnesota Supreme Court Rules of Evidence Advisory Committee.
