The Hon. Jefferson B. Joyce is a judge for the 4th Judicial District Court of Louisiana. He was elected to the bench in 2023, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Danny Ellender to the Louisiana 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal.
The 4th Judicial District encompasses Ouachita Parish and Morehouse Parish.
Prior to his election, Joyce was a judge for the Monroe City Court, a position to which he was named in 2010.
Joyce earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Tulane University in 1997. He then completed a J.D. at Louisiana State University, Paul M. Hebert Law Center, in 2000.
After graduating from law school, Joyce entered into private practice in Monroe. He worked in that capacity for the next ten years, practicing as an associate at Crawford & Anzelmo and a partner at Crawford & Joyce.
His memberships have included the Louisiana State Bar Association, the 4th Judicial District Bar Association, and the Louisiana City Judges Association. He has also been involved with the board of the American Red Cross.
Born in Monroe, Louisiana, Joyce attended Neville High School. He is the son of the late John R. Joyce, a former judge of the 4th Judicial District Court. Joyce and his wife, Kathryn, have two children.
He is registered as an Independent.
