The Hon. G. Richard Collins (Ret.) served as an associate judge for the Prince George’s County District Court in Maryland. Collins was appointed to the bench by former Governor Martin O’Malley on September 5, 2008. He retired on May 13, 2017.
Prior to his appointment, Collins worked as an attorney in private practice, specializing in motor tort and premises liability matters. He started as an associate at Vallario & Keiffer in 1975, rising through the ranks to become a partner at Vallario, Collins & Chappelle (1982 to 1996) and Vallario & Collins (1996 to 2008).
Collins earned a bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1970. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1974. He is admitted to practice in Maryland (1975), the District of Columbia (1976), and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (1976).
After graduating from law school, Collins began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. James M. Rea of the Prince George’s County District Court.
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys’ Association. He also served on the Trial Courts Judicial Nominating Commission (1990 to 1998) and the Inquiry Panel of the Attorney Grievance Commission (1995 to 1999).
