The Hon. Erin Leigh W. Garrett is a judge for the 1st Judicial District Court of Louisiana. She was elected to the bench on November 4, 2014, and re-elected in 2020.
The 1st Judicial District encompasses Caddo Parish.
Prior to her election, Garrett was a sole practitioner in her own private practice, a law firm she opened in 2010. She handled domestic, civil, criminal, estate planning, and personal injury matters, supplementing her practice with service as a behavioral health attorney for Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (2011 to 2014).
Garrett earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Louisiana Tech University in 2002. She then completed a J.D. at Southern University Law Center in 2006.
After graduating from law school, Garrett began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Pascal Calogero, Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court. She subsequently entered into private practice in Shreveport.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Garrett was raised in Southern Hills, where she attended Southwood High School. She is a mother of three children.
She is registered as a Republican.
