The Hon. Erik H. Nyce is an associate judge for the Prince George’s County District Court in Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Larry Hogan on July 21, 2017.
Nyce began his judicial career on the Prince George’s County District Court on June 7, 2012. Then, on January 29, 2016, he was elevated to the Prince George’s County Circuit Court. He served in that capacity until December 16, 2016.
Prior to his appointment, Nyce worked for DeCaro, Doran, Siciliano, Gallagher & DeBlasis. He started as an associate in 1997, rising through the ranks to become a senior associate (2000) and a partner (2006).
Nyce attended the Universite de Grenoble in Grenoble, France, where he earned a deuxieme degre (1982). He then completed a bachelor’s degree in economics from Emory University (1983) and a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law (1987).
He is admitted to practice in Maryland (1987); the District of Columbia (1990); Virginia (1997); the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (1991), the District of Columbia (1998), and the Eastern District of Virginia (2000); and the United States Supreme Court (2002).
After graduating from law school, Nyce entered into private practice. He worked as an associate (1987 to 1993) and a partner (1993 to 1997) at Lombardi, Powers & Amster. During this time, he supplemented his practice with service as a panel attorney for the District Court Division of the Prince George’s County Office of the Public Defender (1988 to 1990).
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, the Marlborough American Inn of Court, the Southern Maryland Inn of Court, and the Maryland Association of Election Officials. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Law Foundation of Prince George’s County and the Inquiry Panel of the Attorney Grievance Commission.
He is a recipient of the Pro Bono Program Service Award from the Law Foundation of Prince George’s County (1991, 1992, 1993) and the President’s Award from the Prince George’s County Bar Association (1991, 1998, 2005, 2008, 2017).
Nyce was born in Washington, D.C. He is a fifth-generation attorney.
