The Hon. David J. Ten Eyck (Ret.) served as a judge for the 9th Judicial District Court of Minnesota. Ten Eyck was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jesse Ventura in 1999. He retired on January 2, 2019.
The 9th Judicial District includes Aitkin County, Beltrami County, Cass County, Clearwater County, Crow Wing County, Hubbard County, Itasca County, Kittson County, Koochiching County, Lake of the Woods County, Mahnomen County, Marshall County, Norman County, Pennington County, Polk County, Red Lake County, and Roseau County.
Prior to his appointment, Ten Eyck was an administrative law judge for the Minnesota Office of Administrative Hearings, a position to which he was named in 1998. Before that, he spent time as a partner at Fitzpatrick, Nelson & Ten Eyck, supplementing his practice with service as a city attorney for Baxter, Brainerd, Nisswa, and Pequot Lakes (1991 to 1998).
Ten Eyck earned a bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College in 1976. He then completed a J.D. at California Western School of Law in 1980.
Two years after graduating from law school, Ten Eyck opened his own private practice as a sole practitioner. He worked in that capacity until 1983, at which time he became a staff attorney for Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota. Then, in 1985, he transferred to Anishinabe Legal Services.
