The Hon. David A. Blanchet is a judge for the 15th Judicial District Court of Louisiana. He was elected to the bench in 2002.
The 15th Judicial District includes Acadia Parish, Lafayette Parish, and Vermilion Parish. Blanchet served as Chief Judge of the 15th Judicial District (2010 to 2011; 2016 to 2017). He is also one of two Family Court judges for the District.
Blanchet received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1976. He then completed a J.D. at Louisiana State University, Paul M. Hebert Law Center, in 1980. As a law student, Blanchet was a Robert Lee Tullis Moot Court Competition Finalist, a member of the Moot Court Board, and president of the Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity.
He spent twenty-two years in private practice, where he handled family law matters. Blanchet was board-certified as a Family Law Specialist by the Louisiana State Bar Association in 1995.
He is a past president of the Paula K. Woodruff Family Law Section of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association and a member of the Louisiana Supreme Court Rules Committee for District Courts.
He is a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, where he attended Lafayette High School. Blanchet and his wife have one daughter. In his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, and being with his family.
