The Hon. Barron C. Burmaster is a judge for the Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court in Louisiana. He was elected to the bench on November 16, 2013.
Burmaster earned a bachelor’s degree in theological studies from Loyola University New Orleans in 1986. He then completed a J.D. at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 1989.
After graduating from law school, Burmaster began his legal career as a criminal law clerk for the 24th Judicial District Court. He served in that capacity until 1991, at which time he was hired as an assistant district attorney for the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office. During his tenure there, he held assignments in the felony, research, and appeals divisions. He also sat as Deputy Chief of the Juvenile Division and Executive Assistant District Attorney (2007 to 2013).
His memberships have included the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Louisiana District Attorneys Association, the American Judges Association, and the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. He has also served on the Youth Development Panel of the Crime and Public Safety Advisory Council and the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Jefferson Child Advocacy Center, and he has been involved with the German American Cultural Center, the Marrero Lions Club, the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and the Alliance of the American Dental Association.
Raised in Jefferson Parish, Burmaster attended McDonogh 26 Elementary School, Gretna Middle School, and West Jefferson High School. He and his wife, Maria, have three sons. Maria works as a dentist with a private practice in Marrero. The family attends Visitation of Our Lady Parish.
He is registered as a Republican.
