The Hon. Alvin Turner (Ret.) served as a judge for the 23rd Judicial District Court of Louisiana. Turner was elected to the bench on October 16, 1993. He retired on January 8, 2023, and returned to private practice at the Turner Law Firm.
The 23rd Judicial District encompasses Ascension, Assumption, and St. James Parishes.
Turner earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Louisiana State University. He then completed a J.D. at Southern University Law Center in 1980. He was licensed to practice in Louisiana (1981).
After graduating from law school, Turner entered into private practice in Gonzales. He worked in that capacity until his election to the bench, supplementing his practice with service as an assistant public defender and an assistant district attorney for the 23rd Judicial District. He also spent time as a staff attorney with Capital Area Legal Services.
His memberships have included the Code of Criminal Procedure Committee for the Louisiana State Law Institute.
Raised in Ascension Parish, Turner attended East Ascension High School.
